GDS Präzisionszerspanungs GmbH UK Summer Tour

From the white cliffs of Dover, to lands way ‘up North’ (and many stops in between!), the GDS technical team spent two weeks in August demonstrating their market-leading clamping and balancing equipment to oelheld UK grinding customers across the country.

A partnership founded on a common goal to help customers achieve the highest precision and efficiencies, GDS’s ultra-precision technologies complement the high-quality fluids, filtration equipment, and mist extraction units that we offer our customers here at oelheld UK.

The German manufacturer’s focus on producing parts which offer the best concentricity and reliability make them ideal for a large proportion of our customer base, many of whom are toolmakers working with carbide, PCD, and HSS serving the aerospace, automotive, and medical industries which require the highest level of accuracy, making precision a central production quality factor.

On display was GDS’s full range of clamping technologies, including the SHARK (universal multi-range 5 jaw chuck), the ALLIGATOR (hydro-expansion precision chucks), uGrind (highly popular series designed for both high production and regrinding processes), and VIPER (the powerhouse of our GDS clamping series!), along with grinding wheel adapters offering compatibility with the leading machine manufacturers: ANCA Deckel/ISOG EWAG, HAAS, Hawema, Reinecker, Rollomatic, Saacke, Schneeberger, Schütte, SMP, Strausak, TTB, Vollmer, Walter, Zaro, and ZETA.

Grinding geeks themselves, the GDS technical team enjoyed getting their teeth into the various challenges presented by each customer’s production setup. Despite the variety of applications and tooling geometries being produced, a common theme across customers was clear; the need to meet increasingly tight tolerances and achieve process efficiencies.

Fortunately, those are two areas where the GDS parts excel! Customers were impressed with the adjustable clamping ranges, micron-level accuracy, highly consistent clamping force and concentricity of the GDS chucks and adapters, and the potential for predictable and stable production. We have been pleased to see a number of customers invest in GDS equipment and we are looking forward to arranging a number of further trials to see just how much the top-class chucks have to offer over a longer period.

A big thank you to all our customers for the warm receptions the GDS and oelheld team received!
